techniques of acrylic painting and explore traditional and modern acrylic

and color, while enjoying your own creative expression. Bring canvas

T4 CREATIVE WRITING

In workshop format, this series of classes will stimulate beginning,
intermediate and advanced writers who will tap into emotions, sensations
and dreams that are often the basis of poems, fiction and memories.
We will also study the work of professional poets and fiction writers,
as well as
the value of figurative language, line breaks, persona, plot, character
and setting. Students will be given journal exercises inspired by music
and word prompts plus optional weekly assignments to encourage and
refine craft.

This class will investigate collage and assemblage as a medium.
Students will learn transfer and painting techniques, try out new
and unconventional
materials, learn color theory and elements of design, and investigate
artist’s use of collage throughout history. This is a project-based
class, although the themes and concepts are open and individual
expression is encouraged. Please bring magazines, scissors, and
a paintbrush
to the first class.

sculpture. Emphasis is on construction, design and glazing. Goals
include several completed projects. Learn to make slabs by hand and

This class is for beginning and intermediate watercolor students
(or returning after a few years sabbatical) who wish to learn or
relearn the wonders, joys, techniques and skills of watercolor painting.
Each week the class will explore a technique such as dry application,
wet, color-mixing. Last two weeks students will be exploring on their
own what they have learned. Students will use professional tube watercolors.
Students buy their own supplies (up to $100).

This fun and creative hands-on class provides instruction on cutting
and breaking of glass, tiles, dishes and construction of finished
piece. Learn and develop direct and indirect basic mosaic-making
techniques. Design and create mosaic mirrors, tabletops, stepping-stones,
etc. Students buy their own supplies.

This introduction to Black and White Photography provides students
with the opportunity to capture images through various projects and
collaborations. We will develop our own film, as well as printing
and exploring various printing techniques such as sepia toning, filters,
dodging and burning, and sandwiching. The class also covers lighting,
portraiture technique, and critique. Please bring camera to first
class.

TH3 HYDRAULIC PRESS FORMING AND CHASING

(Class begins Thursday, April 24)
Create original designs using handmade dies and hydraulic press. Pieces
can be further detailed and enhanced with the addition of chasing.
Basic sawing, soldering and fabrication skills are required.

TH4 TRADITIONAL ILLUSTRATION/INDEPENDENT STUDIES
Fee $96, Lab Donation $5 all payable to BACSAC
Students will practice the steps of traditional illustration from start
to finish. The class will collectively read a short piece of literature,
begin thumbnail concept sketches of how to illustrate it, make rough
comps, and then
finalize the work using any favorite medium. Each assignment will take
2-3 weeks to complete IN CLASS, so students may complete up to 4 finished
illustrations (or more), working at their own pace with their own mediums.
A great chance to work on portfolio pieces! Bring to first class: a
sketchbook, pencils and pens, or other materials of choice to get started
right away.

TH5 PRINTMAKING

The class presents a range of printmaking processes: intaglio, relief,
monoprint, and transfer techniques. Students are encouraged to use
the language of printmaking for the development of imagery and expression.
A historical and contemporary overview of printmaking is shared in
the first class. Water and oil based inks are used. Instructor works
one-on-one with students. No previous printmaking experience necessary.

All levels are welcome. This class focuses on the fundamentals of
figure painting using the technique of alla prima (a single application
of pigments). Instruction covers color mixing, the use of limited
palette with an emphasis on light and shadow. Students are encouraged
to share ongoing insights, discoveries and process. The class addresses
composition strategies and how a painting speaks.

Wael Kakish, the artistic director of Kan Zaman Community Ensemble,
will teach classical and folk rhythm patterns from the Middle East,
Egypt, and Gulf countries. Learn to play Darabukka (Egyptian tabla),
Rigg (fish skin tambourine) and Tar (rame drum) or bring your own.

Using primarily the innovative Photoshop program, with a brief introduction
to Illustrator later in the session, the class will creatively explore

digital domain of the computers of the JAC Digital Studio. Students
will also learn to manipulate photography (and to restore photographs).
This class is a good introduction to digital creation on the computer
and a good refresher to learn more. No previous experience is necessary,
although some students work on projects on their own computers at
home.

Join this exciting hands on introduction to alternative photographic
processes in a workshop environment. (All of these techniques
are very 19th century - salted paper prints, Van Dyke Brown Prints,
Cyanotypes and Albumen Prints.) Using a “kitchen cookbook” approach,
learn to create unique hand crafted images from readily available
materials and common household supplies. No previous photographic
experience
is necessary, but curiosity and a willingness to experiment are
mandatory. All materials supplied. Students pay a material fee
of $30 to the
instructor in class.

PRECIOUS METAL CLAY WITH COLORFUL EPOXY /RESIN

In this two-day workshop students will learn to create rings and pendants
using Precious Metal Clay. The following techniques will be demonstrated:
Fast firing using PMC3, polishing, oxidizing, epoxy/resin, simple wire
wrapping and mold making. No experience necessary. Material list given

Learn the basics of quick sketch landscape painting. Composition, color,
wash, dry and wet techniques will be discussed. Bring water, sunscreen,
hat, watercolor easel (only if you have one) low beach folding chair,
watercolors, sharpie pen, pencil, eraser, watercolor block (3-5 pages),
brushes, water containers. We will paint from 12:00-3:30pm with critique
from 3:30-4:00pm.
